In their words

Don’t take my word for it—take theirs.

  • To Whom It May Concern,
I’m thrilled to recommend Marlowe Overocker, whom I had the pleasure of working with on the Free People copy team. Hired as a temporary assistant copywriter during our peak holiday season, Marlowe proved to be such an asset to our team that we extended her contract multiple times.

She quickly became an expert in product copy—writing for hundreds of products a month, effortlessly blending together the Free People brand voice and an exceptional knowledge of both SEO and technical detail. She became a huge support system to our team, always willing to take on additional work and expand her reach into other avenues of the business. She demonstrated her creativity and strategic thinking by crafting subject lines that resonated with trends, cultural relevance, and brand goals, which helped boost the open rate and contributed to the success of spring and summer campaigns. She also developed stories for our editorial channel, from pitch to promotion, giving voice and personality to the brand’s monthly big ideas and helping to drive product sales.

I would also be remiss if I did not mention that Marlowe performed to this highest level all while working remotely. She is a true example of how well remote employees can work if the role allows for it. Despite her physical distance, she was the ultimate team player. She made herself visible and available for everything we could possibly need and was never out of reach.

I feel incredibly lucky to have been Marlowe’s manager during her time at FP—she made it very easy. Not only is she a wonderful copywriter who just really gets it without the need for much hand- holding, but she’s also eager to learn and open to feedback—she’s more than a writer, she’s a partner. I have received a great deal of feedback from the copywriters’ cross-functional teams about how exceptional she is at her job. We are sorry to lose her.

You’d be lucky to have her.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out for more details—I could go on and on.

    Warmly,
    Caitlin Madden

  • Hello,

I am writing to endorse, unequivocally, a writer with whom I’ve had the pleasure of working for eight months – Marlowe Overocker.

Marlowe agreed to work for our copy team last holiday, the (obviously) busiest time of year for a retailer. We were struggling to meet basic copy requirements due to a lower-than-desirable headcount. But here she came, in answer to our call for a need-now freelancer. And all I can say is that, were Marlowe able to relocate to our stomping grounds, she would be working for us full-time.

I was immediately impressed by her maturity, SEO knowledge, curiosity, and incredible capacity for learning. After training, she showcased a fantastic understanding of our site copy processes, and hit the ground running, fulfilling our needs more quickly than any other copy team member we ever worked with! It was only a few weeks into her tenure that she accepted the unique opportunity of doing additional work on our behalf that included writing for marketing projects, creating subject lines for weekly email sends, as well as curating several email narratives in and of themselves. She also contributed to our long-form (editorial) hub, where I was again impressed that her knowledge and implementation of SEO optimizing resulted in higher-than-expected engagement.

There is no doubt that Marlowe would succeed in meeting your needs, while wow-ing you in the process. If you have questions, please feel free to contact me.

    Best,
    Carrie Yotter

  • Hello!

If you are reading this, you are most likely looking to hire the lovely Marlowe Overocker, who I have had the pleasure to work alongside for the last eight months. While I wish my time with her was longer, she is sure to be a complete creative asset to any place that’s lucky to have her next.

Marlowe walked into our world at Free People when we needed her most. We were extremely short-handed on the copy team, and unable to hit daily goals. We were so happy to have someone with prior copy experience (Neiman Marcus) to really get the ball rolling. However, you never know who’s gonna walk through the door, and how training is going to go. Marlowe completely and utterly blew us away with her incredible expertise, professional demeanor, fast learning, and unwavering desire to lend us a hand in any area she could. To say she was a fantastic hire is an understatement.

From taking on heaping product numbers to creating witty subject lines, Marlowe proved herself to be a true Jack-of-all-trades in the creative marketing/copy world. She spearheaded longform editorials and crafted email copy that fit so well with our brand voice, you’d think she’d been writing for us for years.

This is all proof that Marlowe is a candidate you do not want to miss out on. If you have any questions at all, feel free to contact me.

  • Dear Coordinator,
I’m writing to express my endorsement of an extremely talented writer, colleague, and friend—Marlowe Overocker.

When Marlowe first joined our small but mighty team, amid our busiest holiday season yet, she instantly became a team player. From day one, she grasped the workload quickly, efficiently, and with an effortless skill level that has taken other hires months to perfect. My only complaint is that I wish she could have stayed on our team full-time, because anyone who comes after her will have large shoes to fill.

Marlowe immediately expressed a genuine knowledge of e-commerce and retail copy practices, while also pitching new ideas and stories. She impressed me right away with her attention to detail and understanding of the nuances that come with working in a marketing/storytelling hybrid role. She was readily available and eager to take on new projects and challenges without missing a beat, and creating incredible written content in the process. Marlowe very quickly became a necessary team member because of her ability to take on any task with aplomb. From knocking out upwards of thirty product descriptions daily, to crafting unique and engaging subject lines, to writing up fun and cheeky store banners, email narratives, and evergreen long-form, rich-in-SEO editorial content, Marlowe is truly one of a kind. Though she was only with us for six months, she is leaving with years of experience under her belt—all from her own ability to continuously step up to the plate.

Again, if circumstances were different, we would be keeping Marlowe all to ourselves. However, there is no doubt that she is an exceptional hire with an exceptional work ethic, and I know she will absolutely shine wherever her next role takes her.
